Resources
Device behaviour
Depending on the model, an NGS-D320 has limited audio & video encoding and decoding resources.
A resource utilization algorithm is present on the NGS-D320 that ensures that the device will
always
behave in the same way, when it is con
fi
gured in the same way.
Priority principle
Resources are not granted on a “
fi
rst come
fi
rst serve” principle, but on a priority principle.
The following priority principle is valid:
•
Encoding always gets priority over decoding
•
Encoding will be in order of priority DVI, HDMI, DP
•
If an input stream is con
fi
gured to use an L5.1 pro
fi
le (e.g. for 4K), only encoding shall be active
•
For Pro devices, the
fi
rst stream of an input type will have priority over second stream of the same
input type.
These principles apply dynamically and in real-time, depending on the actual device status. These princi-
ples are valid both for audio & video.
Some examples on the priority principle:
•
A device is con
fi
gured to encode 2 inputs (e.g. 1 DP and 1 DVI), and also con
fi
gured to decode 1
output (e.g. 1 DVI or 1 DP).
When the 2 inputs are active (active syncs detected), the device will only encode, decoding will be
disabled.
If one of the 2 inputs drops (no active sync detected), the decoding will start automatically.
•
A device is con
fi
gured to encode 1 DP input and 1 DVI input.
If the DP input is 4K resolution (L5.1), then only the DP input encoding will be active.
If the DP input resolution changes to 1920x1080, then the DVI input encoding will automatically acti-
vate.
•
A Pro device is con
fi
gured to encode 1 DP input in 2 qualities and 1 DVI input.
The DVI will be encoded.
Only the
fi
rst con
fi
gured DP stream will be encoded.
Reporting
The actual status of resource utilization is reported continuously via Diagnostics.

EDID
EDID support
The NGS-D320 supports EDID at both the input and ouput. The EDID can be setup for each input and
output, individually and independently.
Input
The EDID at the input is the EDID as seen by the PC. This is typically setup at the
encoder
side. Refer
to "Encoder settings", page 35 on how to con
fi
gure.
At the input, 2 settings are supported.
