The AVS (Advanced Visualization System) family is a set of
high-performance, high-resolution graphics generators for X
Windows. Implemented as a single slot or dual slot 6U VME
module, the AVS boards provide exceptional performance and
features for real-time naval, command and control, and air traffic
control applications.

Barco’s AVS5100 is based on PMC (PCI mezzanine) and 6U VME
form factor standards. The board is connected to the host via a
single-slot PMC adaptor that cables to the VME module. Internally,
the AVS operates as a PCI device using the VME back plane for
power and ground only.

The AVS5100 allows users to insert a variety of video sources,
including NTSC, PAL, high-resolution monochrome and RGB,
within the graphics display via an onboard digital video interface.
Thanks to the extendable architecture of the AVS system, up to six
video windows can be displayed simultaneously without
degrading the host CPU or graphics performance.  Video windows
are controlled through either the X11R6 Xv extension or Barco’s
FlexiVision Application Program Interface.
