6.3 USB flash drives
6.3.1 5MMUSB.xxxx-01
6.3.1.1 General information
USB flash drives are easily exchangeable data storage devices. Because of their high-speed data transfer (USB
2.0), USB flash drives are ideal for use as portable storage media. Without requiring additional drivers ("Hot Plug
& Play"), the USB flash drive becomes an additional drive where data can be read or written.
Information:
Due to the large number of USB flash drives available on the market as well as their short product
lifecycle, we reserve the right to provide alternative products. The following measures may therefore
be necessary in order to also boot from these USB flash drives:

The USB flash drive must be reformatted or in some cases also repartitioned (set partition as
active).
•
The USB flash drive must be in the first position of the BIOS boot order; alternatively, the IDE
controllers can be disabled in BIOS. This can be avoided in most cases if command "fdisk /
mbr" is additionally executed on the USB flash drive.
