2 Safety
2.1 Intended use
The BVS ID is an identification sensor with integrated image analysis for contactless acquisition and
examination of bardodes and 2D codes in industrial environments.
Tt is intended to be installed into a machine or system and used in the industrial sector.
Flawless function in accordance with the specifications in the technical data is ensured only when using suitable
original Balluff accessories. Use of any other components will void the warranty.
Non-approved use is not permitted and will result in the loss of warranty and liability claims against the
manufacturer.
2.2 Reasonably foreseeable misuse
The product is not intended for the following applications and areas and may not be used there:
In safety-oriented applications in which personal safety depends on the device function
In explosive atmospheres
In direct contact with food
2.3 General safety notes
Activities such as installation, connection and commissioning may only be carried out by qualified
personnel .
Qualified personnel are persons whose technical training, knowledge and experience as well as knowledge of
the relevant regulations allow them to assess the work assigned to them, recognize possible hazards and take
appropriate safety measures.
The operator is responsible for ensuring that local safety regulations are observed. In particular, the operator
must take steps to ensure that a defect in the product will not result in hazards to persons or equipment.
The product must not be opened, modified or changed. In case of defects and unrepairable malfunctions of the
product, it must be taken out of operation and secured against unauthorized use.
2.3.1 LED beam
The LED ring in the BVS ID is classified in the Risk Group 1 for operator per ISO IEC EN 62471:2008. There
is a risk of glare and irritation!
The definitions of the individual risk groups per ISO IEC EN 62471 are as follows:
Exempt Group No photobiological danger
Risk Group 1 Normal restrictions through the behavior of the user mean the light
source represents no hazard.
Risk Group 2 Lamps that may pose photobiological hazards to the eye or skin from
even a moderate exposure duration but which first cause an avoidance
reaction or thermal discomfort.
Risk Group 3 Lamps represent a hazard even from momentary or short-time
exposure. Use in normal lighting is not permitted.
2.3.2 Hot surfaces
The housing and especially the active surface will heat up under normal operating conditions. There is a risk of
burn injuries.
