About the
Reader
The Balluff BVS HS-Q Series handheld area imager family was specifically created to meet the
market demand with outstanding omni-directional reading performance on virtually all codes at an
affordable price. Elegant design details are incorporated into a smaller, balanced lightweight
enclosure without sacrificing it's durability.
Ideally suited for applications at warehouse and good's inspection, the Balluff BVS HS-Q Series
reader features a new illumination and aiming system developed with the unique intent to reduce
visual stress of the operator during the daily reading activities. It consists of a soft, dark red illumi-
nation combined with two blue LED triangles pointing at the targeted barcode.
The result is a precise aiming system which contributes to low eye fatigue, yet still allows top
operator efficiency.
The Balluff BVS HS-Q Series family reads typical printed linear barcodes as well as complex 2D
barcodes displayed on the screen of a mobile device. The BVS HS-Q readers are an elegant and
robust reader family that provide fast, reliable reading.
Imaging technology meets or exceeds the productivity compared to laser scanners and provides
the additional advantages of a lower cost-of-ownership and greater product reliability over the
long term.
The family of BVS HS-Q Series handheld area consists out of several models:
- BVS HS-QC-SDR-MA-01-01 - Cable version with USB cable in a kit
- BVS HS-QB-SDR-MA-02-02 -Bluetooth version with basestation and USB cable in a kit
- BVS HS-QB-SDR-MA-02-03- Bluetooth version with basestation and RS232 cable in a kit

Programming
the Reader
2.4.1 Configuration
Methods
Programming Barcodes
The reader is factory-configured with a standard set of default features. After reading the interface
barcode, you can select other options and customize your reader through use of the instructions
and programming barcode labels available in the corresponding features section for your inter-
face. Customizable settings for many features are found in

Some programming labels, like
"Restore Custom Defaults" on page 29
, require only the scan of
the single label to enact the change. Most, however, require the reader to be placed in Program-
ming Mode prior to reading them. Scan an ENTER/EXIT barcode once to enter Programming
Mode. Once the reader is in Programming Mode, scan a number of parameter settings before
reading the ENTER/EXIT barcode a second time, which will then accept your changes, exit Pro-
gramming Mode and return the reader to normal operation.
