Configuration
The basis of the configuration is the General Station
Description file (GSD file). It is installed in the configuration
program as per the specifications of the controller
manufacturer.
The GSD file can be downloaded at
www.balluff.de

4.1
Addressing
All PROFIBUS devices require an address. There are
basically three ways to set the slave address of the BTL:
Using the DIP switches, the Set Slave address service
(requires a Class 2 Master) or using Object 918.
4.1.1 Setting using DIP switches
If DIP switches are present and are set to an address from
1 through 124, then the address defined by the DIP
switches always applies. Read access to Object 918 in
this case returns the DIP address.
Switch setting 125 enables address setting using
Object 918 and switch setting 126 SSA mode. These are
described in the following.
Since the DIP switch setting is only read after turning on
the BTL7-T500…, changes while running are only applied
after the next time it is powered on.
4.1.2 SSA mode (Set-Slave-Address)
If the DIP switch is set to 126, then the slave is in SSA
mode. The default address is then 125. This can only be
changed with a Class 2 master using the SSA service. The
address cannot be changed using Object 918.
4.1.3 Setting using Object 918
If the DIP switch is set to 125, then the address can only
be set by describing Object 918. The changed address
must still be stored by accessing parameter 971
on page 30). Reading
Object 918 always returns the active address or
– after a write access – the last written address.
4.1.4 Setting when there are no DIP switches
If there are no DIP switches, then the default address is
125. In this state the address can be set both using the
SSA service and using Object 918 (see above). If Address
125 is set using SSA, then the address stored in Object
918 applies. In any other case the SSA address is used.
4.1.5 Resetting the stored addresses
DIP switch setting 127 sets the SSA address after the next
power-on to 125 and deletes the address stored in Object
918. In this state the BTL is not ready. The address can
then be rest as described above.

Isochrone mode
Isochrone, equidistant measured value acquisition and
communication is the basis for the synchronicity of multiple
drives and sensors. PROFIBUS slaves are synchronized
with a cyclical clock signal sent out by the master as a
Global Control Command (GC). The time points of the
actual value acquisition (T
I
), as well as the nominal value
application (T
O
) within the bus cycle (T
DP
) can be set in the
configuration. This makes it possible to detect the position
values of multiple axes at the same time with microsecond
accuracy.
Fig. 4-1: DP-V2 cycle
A magnetostrictive linear position sensor is based on a
propagation time measurement. This starts at time T and
requires a minimum time T
Signal
for the measurement and
T
Calc
for the processing. Time T
I
must be greater than this
time. Time T
O
should be chosen so that together with T
I
the result is the cycle time T
DP
. If T
I
is less than the time
required for measured value acquisition and processing,
then the configuration of the BTL7-T500… is rejected. T
O
must however always be at least 125 μs!
The minimum processing time for T
I
is based on the times
for the measurement value acquisition T
Signal
and the time
for measurement value processing T
Calc
.
Times TI, TO and TDP must be in the 125-µs
grid, since otherwise the BTL7-T500… rejects
the configuration.
