Primary device functions (continued)

Contact Temperature
5.5.1 Description
The
Contact Temperature
function measures the
temperature of the surface the sensor is mounted on. A
typical use case is to monitor the temperature of a bearing
or a mechanical drive over time. Acquiring data over time
allows the evaluation and extraction of information about
the status of the machine. This function aims for
monitoring applications, and it is not identical with the
specialized temperature sensor’s output.
Due to self-heating, the contact temperature readout may
slightly differ from the real surface temperature. Therefore it
is mandatory to mount the sensor properly on the surface
with good thermal contact.
The function enables alarms for exceeding or
undershooting temperature alarm levels. Additional
maximum and mean values since startup and during the
lifetime are stored and readable.
