Introduction
Features
The ESP 4-port Multi-Interface (ESP-4 MI) serial hub contains an autosensing 10/100 Ethernet
port and four multi-interface serial ports. Each port may be configured to use the RS-232, RS-422
or RS-485 interface.
Modular adaptors are available to facilitate the connection between the ESP-4 MI serial hub and the
target devices.
The ESP-4 MI hub uses an external power supply, which is provided with the hub. See
on page 8 for more information.
Serial port access
All ESP-4 MI hubs support several ways to access the serial ports. Each of these connection
methods is described in Chapter 3, beginning on page 11.

Serial port redirection uses drivers installed on a host computer. The ESP-4 MI serial hub drivers

For serial port redirection, the ESP-4 MI hub is configured using the appropriate drivers running on
any Microsoft Windows host, or espdiag and espcfg for OpenServer, UnixWare, Linux, Sun or
AIX systems. Certain configuration values are set during driver installation.
