Eclipse Edge User Manual
Typical Loading Sequence
Having selected the software pack to load and a transfer/activate option, the new
software installation process is initiated by clicking the Start button. Sequences are
described for the three transfer/activate options:
• Transfer and Activate
• Transfer Only
• Activate Transferred Software
NOTE:
Depending on the changes in the new software load, traffic and/or
the Portal connection can be momentarily interrupted.
Transfer and Activate
Upon clicking the
Start
button:
1. “Transferring software” is displayed in the Software State load destination lines,
and the load state LEDs indicate grey.
Both ODU and Control Module (IDUspe) destination lines will be loaded where the
new software is a later release for both destinations.
2.
The Progress lines indicate 0% for an initial period and then as the
software loads, gradually increments towards 100%
.
NOTE:
The load state LEDs can toggle between grey and orange several
times during the transfer process. For a large upgrade, for example
upgrading from a very early version, the load to the IDU may take
several seconds, but may take several minutes for the ODU. The
reason for this is that the IDU is directly connected to the load
source (Portal PC), which loads directly at high-speed. However, an
ODU must be loaded over its telemetry connection (from its IDU),
which at 38.4 kbps occurs much more slowly, and at times may
appear to hang. Simply wait until both LEDs are green and the new
version of software is displayed in the Active Version column, and
Software OK is displayed in the Software Status column.
3. On reaching 100%, “Activating software (version number)” is displayed in the
Software State lines to indicate that it is switching to the new software.
4. Depending on the load, activation may be completed within a few seconds, or take
up to two minutes, during which period “Cannot contact the unit” may be displayed
along with orange load-state LEDs and cycling of
front panel
LEDs.
5. At the end of this period Eclipse Edge returns to normal operation. There is no
requirement to reset a terminal on completion of a software load - the new version
automatically replaces the old version. The previous version of software is retained
for rollback.
6. For Portal to auto-version with the new software you must exit your Portal session
and log back in. An on-screen message prompts for Portal exit and restart.
