Before c alling Servic e, print a tes t label. The label c ontains inform ation to help diagnos e
m ec hanic al and s etup problem s .
This c hapter als o provides explanations of the printer’s errors . The errors are c las s ified by type
and are lis ted in order. To load s upplies or perform m aintenanc e, refer to the
Operator’s
Handbook . See Chapter 7, “Status Polling,” for inform ation on reques ting printer and job s tatus .
Som e errors num bered 400-438 and 500-574 are internal s oftware errors . Errors num bered 703-
758 are s upply errors . Follow the direc tions provided with the error des c ription to c orrec t the
problem . Errors num bered 900-999 are Hard Printer Failures . If an error c annot be c leared, turn
off the printer, wait s everal s ec onds and then turn on the printer. Call Tec hnic al Support when
rec eiving any error m es s age not lis ted in this c hapter.
To c lear an error, c orrec t the problem (load s upply, etc .) and pres s ENT ER to reprint/c ontinue. If
a form atting error oc c urs , the label prints ; but data m ay be m is s ing. Correc t the form at or batc h
and res end them to the printer.

From the Main Menu s elec t T LABEL . Selec t from the tes t label options :
Printe r Information M PCL Labe l
Contains generic inform ation, inc luding inc h
c ounts and printhead res olution. Contains the printer’s MPCL pac ket
c onfiguration.
The Printer Info label s hows the m odel num ber, s oftware vers ion, total num ber of inc hes printed,
voltage, print c ontras t, printhead res is tanc e, num ber of bad dots , and ins talled options (s ee the
following table). The tes t label s hows an inc h c ount for the high energy ribbon. The one-dot rule
line at the bottom of the tes t label indic ates the vertic al 0,0 point.
The MPCL label s hows the printer’s c onfiguration by pac ket ( A-Y ). See Chapter 2, “Configuring
the Printer” for m ore inform ation. The lines beginning with M s how the printers m em ory
alloc ation, whic h c an be c hanged. The units for s upply pos ition, etc . are dis played in dots , even
if entered in Englis h or Metric units .
