Removing, Replacing, and Adding Assemblies
Caution:
The following paragraphs contain basic procedures for the removal and replacement of
hardware assemblies. Depending on system configuration, environment, and operating
conditions, additional factors can be considered (for example, electrostatic discharge [ESD]).
These procedures must be performed only by qualified maintenance personnel.
Note:
When you change networked FRU and you have an ethernet address, you must modify the /etc/
bootptab file. If you are replacing an application processor, the licenses must be recut to match
the new host ID.
Removing and Replacing a TMS
1. Soft terminate all applications running on lines on the TMS to be removed, see
on page 141. Do not unassign applications to be restarted on the replacement
TMS.
2. Set the MPS 500 power switch to OFF.
3. Loosen the two retaining screws securing the front and lower panels of the MPS 500.
4. Disconnect the telephone line input cable from the RJ48M connector on the front of the
DCC.
5. Remove the two screws securing the TMS to the chassis.
6. Pull outward on the two TMS extractors and slide the TMS out of the chassis.
7. Remove plug-in modules (that is, DCC and MDM) from the removed TMS and reuse them
on the replacement TMS. Tag each module for installation in same slot on the replacement
TMS. Remove modules from TMS slots 1 and 3 first:
a. Remove the two screws securing the module mounting bracket to the TMS front panel.
b. Carefully lift the module connector out of the mating connector in the TMS riser board.
