Using the Monitor Loader
This activity must only be performed via a directly connected PC and use of a serial
port (see page 24).
1. Enable the IP Networking setting for the PC (direct connection) as detailed in
"Enable IP Networking" on page 24.
2. Log on to the INDeX (see page 20). From the
Administration
menu, select
Channel Information
and then
Shutdown
.
3. Switch the INDeX system power off and wait approximately 5 seconds
4. Switch the INDeX system power on and immediately type
CJW
(in upper case
and within 3 seconds). The screen displays the "Monitor Loader" header and the
:
monitor prompt.
5. Type
Z
. The system asks if you want to erase the existing software, answer
Y
.
6. When the erase has completed, the
:
symbol re-appears. Type
F
to enable a
network upload. If asked for an IP address you can either accept the default by
pressing
↵
or you can enter a new IP address. (The IP Address of 172.16.6.180.
is the default.)
7. Start your command line FTP program.
a. In Windows 95, 98 and NT, select
Start | Run
and enter
ftp
.
b. Enter
open
172.16.6.180
which is the default IP address used by INDeX in
monitor mode.
c. When requested enter a username.
d. Enter
bin
to ensure that FTP file transfers user binary mode.
e. Enter
hash
if you want a visual indication of the transfer of data packets.
f. Enter
send
fn
PA
where
fn
is the file path of the software file to send.
g. Enter
close
to end the FTP connection.
h. With Windows FTP, enter
quit
to close the FTP window.
9. Return to the Kermit program. The Monitor Loader session should be showing
Received
and a description of the file uploaded.
10.
Type
U
to uncompress the software. Check that a line of dots appears with no
'X's in it. If there are any 'X's the software upload has failed and the procedure
must be repeated from step 4 above.
11.
Type
P
to load the uploaded software into the system's flash memory. Check
that a line of dots appears with no 'X's in it. If there are any 'X's the software
upload has failed and the procedure must be repeated from step 4 above.
12. Type
X
to restart the system. The system should restart after 30 seconds. The
"Trying Permanent Software"
message is displayed. Press
Ctrl
and
]
at the
same time, then press
C
.
13. Press
↵
and log on again. (You may have to reset your PC's port speed back to
9600 to log on again.)
14. You can now program the new INDeX 30 software features.
