Job aid: Avoiding electrostatic discharge
The Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 Series modules are sensitive to static electricity. Static
discharge from your clothing or other fixtures around you, even at levels that do not create a
spark, can cause damage.
Caution:
Electrostatic discharge (ESD) can damage hardware. Follow the procedures in this section
to protect your equipment from damage.
To prevent static discharge damage when you work with Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 Series
modules, place each module on a grounded antistatic mat until you are ready to install it, or
leave the module in the sealed ESD bag. Wear a discharge leash or wrist strap to free yourself
of static before you touch a module.
Warning:
Fiber optic equipment can emit laser or infrared light that can injure your eyes. Never look
into an optical fiber or connector port. Always assume that fiber optic cables are connected
to a light source.
Module installation limitations
• You can use two 8393 SF/CPU modules in each Ethernet Routing Switch 8310 and 8306
chassis.
• Ethernet Routing Switch 8310 and 8306 chassis support Power over Ethernet (PoE).
Modules with the PoE capability perform as nonPoE versions.
