Chapter 20
Selecting & Deleting Entities
You can select entities using a variety of techniques. You can select them
directly, using the mouse, you can select all of the entities in the drawing
using a command, or you can use the Selection Modifier.
The Selection Modifier allows you to select entities based on their properties.
This is a very powerful capability. With it, you can select all of the entities on
the Plumbing layer, all of the symbols that represent desks costing over five
hundred dollars, or all of the entities in the drawing except red circles and
green arcs.
When you select an entity, it becomes part of the current selection set. The
selection set consists of highlighted entities surrounded by selection handles.
You can add entities to the selection set and remove them anytime you like.
With each change, the selection handles are adjusted to reflect the extent of
the current selection set. The selection set can contain any number of entities
from a single entity to all entities in the drawing. Any action you perform on
the selection set affects all selected entities.
Selecting Entities with the Mouse
Using the mouse is the simplest way to select an entity. With the mouse, you
can select a single entity, cycle through overlapping entities, or select multi-
ple entities at once. The edit bar displays the number of entities selected.
■
Simply click any individual entity to select it.
■
If entities overlap, you can use GetNext selection to cycle through the over-
lapping entities by pressing ALT as you click. When you release the ALT
key the highlighted entity is selected.
■
Clicking and dragging from left to right, allows you to select all entities
that are completely inside the region.
■
Clicking and dragging from right to left, allows you to select even entities
that are partially inside the region.
■
You can also select single or multiple entities by defining a special
polyline, in which only entities that the polyline crosses are selected.
