Optional Switches
The instrument panel can be fitted with a
number of optional switches and controls. The
features included will depend on the options
and operating conditions for which the truck
is configured. Switches and controls shown
in this section may not all be included in the
instrument panel.
Engine Diagnosis Active Regeneration Switch
The Engine Diagnosis Active Regeneration
Switch (Figure 96) is used to initiate a manual
regeneration cycle.
The Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Warning
Lamp will illuminate when the DPF system
must undergo a regeneration cycle. The
regeneration cycle is necessary to burn off the
accumulated soot
particles trapped in the DPF system. The
regeneration cycle is an automatic process and
should occur when the exhaust heat reaches a
sufficient temperature to begin the process.
Figure 96
WARNING
The operator should be aware that
increased exhaust gas temperatures
during the regeneration cycle may cause
a fire if the vehicle is in an area where the
exhaust might come in contact with trees,
brush or other flammable objects.
DANGER
The operator should avoid physical
contact with the exhaust system at all
times, as extreme heat is often
generated from the system, which could
cause severe burns resulting in serious
personal injury or death.
If the DPF Warning Lamp begins blinking once
per second, then the need for the regeneration
cycle has become urgent, but the cycle has
not started. If the High Exhaust System
Temperature (HEST) Warning Lamp is lit at this
time, it indicates that enough exhaust heat is
now present in the DPF and the regeneration
cycle has been initiated.
If the HEST Warning Lamp still has not lit
and the Check Engine Warning Lamp has,
the operator should continue driving the
vehicle, until either the HEST Warning Lamp
illuminates, indicating that the regeneration
cycle has begun, or the Stop Engine Warning
Lamp comes on and the DPF Warning Lamp
goes out.
Refer to the warning and instruction labels
inside the cab for stationary exhaust
regeneration and DPF cleaning procedure label
(Figure 97 and Figure 98).
