When and How to Use Provox® LaryButton™
The Provox LaryButton inserts into the stoma to hold the Provox® Heat and
Moisture Exchanger (HME) or Provox® ShowerAid. The LaryButton can help
maintain the size of the stoma and prevent the stoma from shrinking. The
LaryButton may be able to stay in the stoma by itself or may need to be held
in place with Provox® LaryClips or Provox® TubeHolder.
1. Sizing of the Provox LaryButton
• Your ability to use the LaryButton depends on the size and shape of
your stoma. It should fit well into your stoma without causing irritation.
Always discuss with a clinician before using a LaryButton. Your clinician
will be able to help you decide which LaryButton is best for you.
2. Inserting the Provox LaryButton
• Lightly lubricate the small end of the LaryButton that fits into your
stoma. Only use a water soluble lubricant.
• Fold the narrow end with your fingers or a blunt hemostat and hold it
firmly folded.
• Insert the narrow end into your stoma and release your fingers or the
hemostat.
• Gently tug on the LaryButton wings to ensure the LaryButton is seated
in the correct position.
• Make sure that the LaryButton is in the correct position and that it is
not pushing on the voice prosthesis.
• The LaryButton can be attached with Provox LaryClips or a Provox
TubeHolder if necessary.
• Insert a Provox HME into the opening of the LaryButton.
3. Wearing your Provox LaryButton
• Determine an appropriate wear schedule with your clinician.
• If you are having difficulty getting used to wearing your Provox
LaryButton, wear it for short periods of time, gradually increasing the
length of time as tolerance improves.
