1 General information
The EcoAlpa Control Unit is designed to depict operation of the entire Gas Detection & Safety System in
visual manner and to produce the required output signals.
The EcoAlpa Control Unit is a dual port control device designed for collaboration with gas detectors
communicating by means of 4..20 mA control signals. It has analog outputs to connect a sound and optic
warning device and digital lines for transmission of the system status information. In addition, the control
unit can be integrated with a superior automation system, for instance BMS. Depending on the design
option the units is also capable of controlling a gas shutoff valve.
The EcoAlpa unit reads the following information:
signals from gas detectors,
signal from a digital line (e.g. BMS),
operator’s commands (keyboard).
Based on the foregoing inputs the EcoAlpa unit performs the following operations:
activates warning devices connected to the system (both sound and optic ones),
produces sound and visual information for users of the system,
activated output signals for communication with external systems (e.g. DCS or a ventilation
system),
develops output signals necessary to shut off a valve on a gas supply line.
2 Safety
All activities related to connecting detectors, signallers and other system components must
be carried out while Control Unit's power supply is off.
Although switching power supply of the Gas Detection and Safety System off, there is
a possibility that a dangerous voltage can exist on the terminals of the control unit. It can
originate from another system like for an example ventilation system that uses one of the
output pins of control unit.
When performing repair, building and maintenance works, secure the device in a proper
way.
Before painting the walls, make sure the device is secured.
