Chapter 3

Basic Operation

Port Selection

KH1508 / KH1516 installations provide three methods to obtain instant access
to any computer in your installation: Manual, OSD, and

Hotkey

.

Manual

For a stand alone switch, or the first stage unit of a daisy chained installation,
simply press the Port Switch that corresponds to the device you wish to access.

For a daisy chained switch, do the following:

1. Press the Port Switch on the parent unit that the daisy chained switch is

connected to.

Note:

On a multi-stage installation (see

Daisy Chaining

, page 15), work

your way back to the first stage unit.

2. Press the Port Switch on the daisy chained switch that corresponds to the

device you wish to access.

OSD

OSD (On Screen Display), provides a menu driven interface to the computer
switching procedure. OSD operation is discussed in the next chapter.

Hotkey

Hotkeys allow you to conveniently provide KVM focus to a particular
computer from the keyboard, instead of having to manually select them by
pressing Port Selection switches. Keyboard operation is discussed in
Chapter 5.
