Storage Precautions
Before storing ink or printheads, please read this section thoroughly. These storage
precautions must be followed to reduce the risk of damage during storage.
Please contact Technical Support if you have any questions or concerns about storage.
Printhead Storage
This section provides information about storage and transportation for printheads and guidance
on likely performance if held beyond the specified storage period.
Printhead Transportation
•
IEC 60721-3-2 Class 2K2
•
-13º F to 140º F (-25° C to 60° C)
•
Printheads can be cumulatively exposed to temperatures between 113º F to 140º F (45°
C to 60° C) for up to 72hrs
Printhead Storage
•
18 months from date of manufacture
•
IEC 60721-3-1 Class 1K3
•
23º F to 113º F (-5° C to 45° C)
Physical orientation: Store and transport the cartridge as indicated by the “this side up” arrow
symbol on the packaging. Do not store or transport the cartridge with its long axis vertically
oriented.
Longer Printhead Storage (Beyond Specification)
If the storage has been relatively well controlled at 64º F to 86º F (18° C to 30° C), 2 years
storage life should be realized. Extended storage at greater than 95º F (35°C) beyond specified
life is not recommended.
Failure Due to Exceeding Storage Life
Failure due to exceeding printhead storage life would primarily be caused by the breakdown of
the foam in the protective case of the printhead. The shipping fluid interacts with foam and can
cause decomposition and particles which would be trapped in the printhead. To some extent
these will be flushed through printhead maintenance routines but the particles which are not will
clog nozzles and cause streaks. For printheads with extended storage life, heavy cleaning
maintenance before the first print will improve the first print performance. The performance of
these printheads should improve with the quantity of ink printed, as remnant particles are
dislodged.
