Weight balancing
When all your equipment is mounted you need to optimize the weight balance.
Direct drive mounts can only work properly with proper weight balance. The minimum
requirement is that the mount does not move by itself when the motors are switched off.
Avoid asymmetric weights on the telescope. If you add any device to the telescope make sure
that is located on the rotational axle. Otherwise you need to compensate it with additional
counter weights.
WARNING!
This is a two persons job. Always make sure that somebody holds the equipment in place when
loosening any screws.
With DDM200 Basic
Move the mount to a position where both axes are horizontal. As you should start with the DE axis you can lock
the RA axis in a horizontal position using the RA locking brake.
Now move the DE axis by hand and shift the telescope inside the dovetail adapter or add or move counter
weights of the telescope until you achieve proper weight balance. That means that the telescope might not
move upwards or downwards by itself. The force required to move the telescope upwards or downwards should
be as equal as possible. When you are satisfied with the result make sure that all screws are tight and the
telescope is fastened securely.
