SharpSwitch™ PCIE-9205 Installation and Use (6806800U18D)

BIOS

The Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) is a card firmware, which provides an interface between
the operating system (OS) and the hardware of the card. It is used for hardware initialization
and configuration.

Before loading of the OS, the BIOS performs basic hardware tests and prepares the card for
initial boot-up procedure.

The BIOS is based on the Insyde UEFI BIOS, which in turn is based on the Intel BIOS for
Grangeville platform with multiple Artesyn extensions and enhancements.

The following are the main features of BIOS:



Initialization of the CPU, build-in CPU and memory



Initialization of the PCI devices



Setup utility for configuration data



BMC support over IPMI



Serial console redirection to a local port and Serial over LAN (SOL)



Boot of Operation System

The BIOS complies with the following specifications:



The BIOS setup is needed to configure the card hardware. This configuration is necessary for
operating the card and the connected peripherals. The configuration data is stored in the same
flash device from which the BIOS image boots.
