USB
The USB ports of the Xeon Processor D are utilized as follows:
USB2.0 Port0
for the CPU connects to a microSD card controller (SMSC USB2240 Flash
Media Controller) supporting uSD cards of up to 256Gbyte of memory. The SD cards allow
to boot an installed OS.
The microSD cards are located on the bottom side of the PCIE-9205 card and are only
accessible when the PCIE-9205 card is extracted from the MaxCore system.
USB2.0 Port1
is available for the CPU through a USB3.0 compatible connector at the PCIE-
9205 faceplate as a regular USB port to connect USB devices.
Port1 implements an USB 2.0 based debug port that provides the ability for debugger
software to interact with the processor.
USB2.0 Port2
is available only if the PCIE-9205 is selected as the MC3000 management
CPU (mCPU). In this case, it connects to the MC3000 BMC and supports the Remote Media
function.
USB2.0 Port3
is available only if the PCIE-9205 is operated in slot 1 or slot 15 of the
MC3000 system. In this case, it may be configured to connect to the IO Panel of the system
and provides a respective USB port on the IO panel.
USB3.0 Port1
is available for the CPU through a USB3.0 compatible connector (same
connector as used for USB2.0 Port1) at the PCIE-9205 faceplate as a regular USB port to
connect USB 3.0 devices.
4.7
UART (COM port)
The Xeon Processor D comes with an integrated dual UART controller.
The serial console COM0 of the processor can be accessed through a USB connection from a
host computer (there is no direct serial access). For this purpose, the PCIE-9205 provides an on-
board dual USB-to-Serial converter. The USB-side of this converter connects to the host
computer via the microUSB connector on the PCIE-9205 faceplate. One serial port of the USB-
to-Serial converter connects to the CPU’s COM0 port.
When connecting a host computer to the respective microUSB port of the PCIE-9205 the USB-
to-Serial converter will become a USB device of this computer, thus providing two serial ports
(UARTs) to the host computer.
