3.1 Intel i350 Ethernet Controller
The Intel i350 Quad Gigabit Ethernet Controller is the main interface between the Server PCIe
bus and the Target Media Accelerator Processors. The Gigabit Ethernet Controller has an x4
PCIe Gen 2 bus (aggregate of 20Gbps throughput) connecting to the gold fingers of the PCIe
edge card.
The other side of the Gigabit Ethernet Controller contains four Gigabit Ethernet buses, each bus
connected to a Multi-Chip Package (MCP) accelerator. Each Gigabit Ethernet Controller link
travels through a single Gigabit Ethernet Transformer. There are four such links and therefore
four Gigabit Ethernet transformers are available on the board. Each MCP accelerator sends and
receives traffic over the Gigabit Ethernet link.
3.2 CPU Complex
Each CPU complex consists of a single MCP combining an Intel i7-5650U (Broadwell) mobile
processor with an Intel QM87 Chipset (Lynx Point) all on the same BGA package. Each MCP is
connected to an Intel i218 (Clarkville) controller providing Gigabit Ethernet to the i350 Gigabit
Ethernet Controller.
Each MCP complex also has an 8GB (4GB each channel) dual interleaved DDR3 memory
running at DDR3-1600 speed for a total 32GB of memory on each PCIe card.
3.2.1 MCPx Block
The MCP is a Multi-Chip Package processor complex that consists of an Intel i7-5650 High
Performance Mobile Processor with hyper-threading and turbo capability. The MCP package
also contains a PCH Peripheral Control Hub. There are four MCP blocks on each PCIE-7207
board. The Broadwell processor is the intended processor for the PCIE-7207 board.
