6.7.3
Driving over obstacles
●
If it is not possible to drive around an obstacle: park the vehicle and examine the
obstacle from all sides.
●
If the examination reveals that you can drive over the obstacle: switch four-wheel
drive on.
●
As far as possible, approach the obstacle in an 90° angle to prevent the vehicle
from tilting.
●
Adapt the speed such that, while keeping control of the vehicle, the momentum is
still sufficient to drive over the obstacle.
●
Only build up the momentum required to get over the obstacle to ensure sufficient
reaction time for unexpected situations.
6.7.4
Reversing
●
Reverse slowly.
●
Avoid sharp turns.
●
If possible, do not drive downhill.
●
Avoid sudden braking.
●
If you cannot see the terrain behind the vehicle: park vehicle, get off and examine
the route.
●
If possible, ask a second person to watch the route and call your attention to
obstacles.
WARNING
A collision with hidden obstacles may lead to serious injuries or death.
Reduce the speed and drive particularly carefully on unknown terrain.
NOTE
If your are not certain whether your skills suffice to be able to drive safely
over an obstacle: drive around the obstacle. If it is not possible to drive
around: cut back and search for a more adequate route.
NOTE
It may be useful to connect the differential lock. But this will also increase the
required steering forces.
