MODEL 2120 & 2140 MEDIA AIR CLEANERS

OWNER’S MANUAL

Thank you for purchasing this Aprilaire air cleaner.

With this purchase you have invested in the highest quality
equipment currently available.

The only time the air cleaner will remove contaminants

from the air is when the blower in your heating and cooling
system is operating.  Following are a few suggestions you
may consider in regard to how you want to clean the air in
your home.

Continuous Air Cleaner Operation:

By setting the fan

setting on your thermostat to “Fan-On” the blower in the
heating and cooling system will operate continuously.  This
will give you the best filtration of the air in the home by
making sure the air in the home is circulated through the
air cleaner.

Intermittent Air Cleaner Operation:

By setting the fan

setting on your thermostat to the “Fan-Auto” setting the
blower in your heating and cooling system will only
operate during those times when you are heating or
cooling the home.

Air Cleaner Operation Based on Activity:

There may

be times when the air in your home has more
contaminants generated than normal.  For instance, when
vacuuming or dusting you may consider operating the
heating and cooling blower continuously during and after
the vacuuming and dusting take place.  This can be
accomplished by switching the fan setting on the
thermostat to the “Fan-On” setting.

For Allergy Relief:

If allergy symptoms exist for

anyone in your home, we recommend Continuous Air
Cleaner Operation.  Also there is an “upgrade kit”
available for your air cleaner to enable it to remove a
higher percentage of pollen and spores normally
associated with allergy discomfort.  Contact your Aprilaire
contractor to discuss this option.

OPERATION

The Aprilaire Air Cleaner requires no electrical

component service, and is not affected by relative
humidity or temperature. The only maintenance required is
the periodic replacement of the disposable Aprilaire filter
cartridge which you can do in a few minutes. The
frequency of replacement will vary with blower operation
and the amount of pollutants in the home. Pollutants in the
home are affected by: the number of people and their
activities, the amount of carpeting, pets, size of the home,
the number of smokers and the pollution level of the
outdoor environment. We recommend replacing the filter
cartridge every 6 to 12 months. Air conditioning systems
larger than 3.5 tons, or heating systems larger than 130,000
BTU’s per hour (1400 cfm), will require more frequent
attention if operated continuously.
