Bypass Switch TAP/Aggregator User Manual
Failover recovery
There are two possible methods for failover recovery:
• Manual: The user must manually set Port Mode to Monitor and re-enable the heartbeat
signal.
• Automatic: When a failover condition occurs, the blade shifts into Bypass mode, but
continues to send heartbeat packets to the network tool.
If the broken connection between the blade and the network tool is restored, such that the
blade receives the heartbeat packets from the network tool consistently for one minute, the
blade automatically shifts back into Monitor mode.
The one minute value is based on the user setting that allows 12 or more packets per minute
to be transmitted from the blade. If the connection has been restored for one full minute, then
hopefully the issue that caused the original failover has been addressed, and the blade
doesn’t flip-flop back and forth between Bypass and Monitor mode.
Failover recovery GUI for manual and automatic
From the GUI standpoint, to implement both the Manual and Automatic recovery features, a
pair of radio buttons are added in the Port Properties window on the Heartbeat panel.
