VFL Testing
The Visual Fault Locator (VFL) is a visible (red) light source.
Since the light from the VFL is visible, it is useful for locating
fault points in the dead zone by visually checking the
diffusing light.

The VFL is an option – not all units are equipped with the
VFL.
•
With the fiber under test connected to the VFL port
(see “Connecting Fiber to the VFL Port” on
page 2-17), press the
Menu/Power key
to
display the General Functions pop-up menu. When
the pop up menu appears, press the
Set key
, the
VFL control menu appears. Highlight the desired
operating mode,
CW
or
MOD
, and press the
Set
key
. Visually examine the fiber under test, locating
the fault (bend or break) by finding the red glow.

To turn off the VFL, press the
Menu/Power key
, the
General Functions pop-up menu appears with VFL
highlighted. Press the
Set key
, the VFL control
menu appears, highlight
OFF
and press the
Set key
.

NEVER look directly into the cable connector on the
Network Master nor into the end of a cable connected to
the unit. If laser radiation enters the eye, there is a risk of
injury.
