Configuring Telnet Settings
Use the System > Telnet menu to configure parameters for accessing the CLI over a Telnet connection. You can access the
on-board configuration program over the network using Telnet (i.e., a virtual terminal). Management access via Telnet can be
enabled/disabled and other parameters set, including the TCP port number, time outs, and a password. Note that the password is
only configurable through the CLI.) These parameters can be configured via the web or CLI interface.
The following table displays the options on this page:
NOTE:
The password for the Telnet connection can only be configured through the CLI (see the "password" command in the CLI
Reference Guide).
NOTE:
Password checking can be enabled or disabled for login to the console connection (see the "login" command in the CLI
Reference Guide). You can select authentication by a single global password as configured for the password command, or by
passwords set up for specific user-name accounts. The default is for local passwords configured on the switch.
Perform these steps to configure parameters for the console port:
1.
Click
System
>
Telnet
.
2.
Click the
Enabled
check box to enable Telnet on the switch.
3.
Specify the connection parameters as required.
4.
Click
Apply
.
System - Time Options
Telnet Status
Enables or disables Telnet access to the switch. (Default: Enabled)
TCP Port
Sets the TCP port number for Telnet on the switch. (Range: 1-65535; Default: 23)
Max Sessions
Sets the maximum number of Telnet sessions that can simultaneously connect to this system.
(Range: 0-8; Default: 8)
A maximum of eight sessions can be concurrently opened for Telnet and Secure Shell (i.e., both
Telnet and SSH share a maximum number of eight sessions).
Login Timeout
Sets the interval that the system waits for a user to log into the CLI. If a login attempt is not
detected within the timeout interval, the connection is terminated for the session. (Range: 10-300
seconds; Default: 300 seconds)
Exec Timeout
Sets the interval that the system waits until user input is detected. If user input is not detected
within the timeout interval, the current session is terminated. (Range: 60-65535 seconds; Default:
600 seconds)
Password Threshold
Sets the password intrusion threshold, which limits the number of failed login attempts. When the
login attempt threshold is reached, the system interface becomes silent for a specified amount of
time (set by the Silent Time parameter) before allowing the next login attempt. (Range: 1-120;
Default: 3 attempts)
Silent Time
Sets the amount of time the management interface is inaccessible after the number of
unsuccessful login attempts has been exceeded. (Range: 1-65535 seconds; Default: Disabled)
