helium speech. The Depth Control is a multi-turn control with a locking feature. This
allows the tender to finely adjust the level necessary and lock the control to prevent
accidental adjustments.
4.7.6
At power-up, all the controls should be in the minimum (far left) position. Have the
diver speak and adjust the DEPTH CONTROL as necessary to achieve the best
speech quality. Then adjust the TREBLE BOOST as necessary to improve the
quality. There is some interaction between these controls so you may have to go
back and adjust the DEPTH CONTROL. Once the best speech quality settings are
found, the NOISE REDUCTION FILTER can be adjusted, if necessary, to reduce
any background noise.
4.7.7
Operating in 2-Wire and Full Duplex (4-Wire) modes is possible with the HSU. In 2-
Wire mode, the tender's push-to-talk switch interrupts signals from the diver. In Full
Duplex mode, the tender will hear the diver at all times and tender must use a
headset to talk to the divers without using the push-to-talk switch. Use of a headset
to monitor helium speech is strongly recommended to enhance intelligibility.

INHALATION NOISE REDUCTION (INR) OPERATION
4.8.1
Amron’s Inhalation Noise Reduction option features an individual INR circuit for
each diver that can completely eliminate inhalation noise or can be adjusted to any
level as needed. The net result is improved communications with improved
intelligibility between the tender and divers.
4.8.2
The Inhalation Noise Reduction feature has been fully integrated with both Amron’s
portable and rack mount communicators. The built in INR module can recognize
the inhalation noise through the use of high frequency content characteristics of
inhalation noise.
4.8.3
Each diver has an individual INR control knob and LED indicator located on the
front panel. The INR control knob can be adjusted by tender to control the level of
inhalation noise reduction desired. The INR control knob also has an integrated
detent function to allow the user to turn off or on the feature by simply turning the
knob counter clockwise. The blue LED indicator will illuminate when the diver’s
INR feature is actively removing the diver’s inhalation noise.
4.8.4
The INR feature operates with both dynamic and pre-amp microphone applications
automatically as on all Amron communicators.
4.8.5
Before turning on the power to the communicator, turn each INR control knob all
the way counter clockwise until you feel a click. This is the off position and
bypasses the INR module (INR function is disabled)
4.8.6
Set volume controls to the desired position per communicator manual.
4.8.7
Turn on power to communicator.
4.8.8
For each diver, turn on the INR feature by turning the control knob clockwise to the
point the INR LED is illuminating when the diver is inhaling.
