About MP3/WMA/AAC/M4A/WAV/FLAC/APE/DSD
Attention
Except for personal use, copyright laws and international conventions strictly prohibit the copying, distribution,
transmission or copying of audio data (including MP3/WMA/AAC/M4A/WAV/FLAC/APE/DSD data), free of charge
or for a fee, without the consent of the copyright owner.
What is MP3?
MP3, officially known as "MPEG Audio Layer 3", is a compression standard specified by MPEG, a joint
executive body under the ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC. MP3 files contain
compressed audio data. The MP3 format has reduced the size of the music file to a tenth of its original size,
while still maintaining a sound quality close to that of a CD. The MP3 format achieves such a
high compression rate by excluding sounds that could not be heard by the human ear or are masked by
other sounds.
What is WMA?
WMA or "Windows Media™ Audio" is compressed audio data, and WMA is similar to MP3 audio data.
What is AAC?
一
AAC stands for "Advanced Audio Coding", which is a basic audio compression format used by MPEG2 or
MPEG4.
What is M4A?
M4A is the file extension of the MPEG-4 audio standard, M4A files contain compressed audio data.
What is WAV?
WAV is a sound file format developed by Microsoft. It conforms to the RIFF (Resource Interchange File Format)
file specification, which is used to store audio information resources for the Windows platform and is widely
supported by the Windows platform and its applications. This format also supports MSADPCM, CCITTALAW
and other compression algorithms as well as a variety of audio digital, sampling frequencies and channels; the
standard format of WAV files is the same as CD format with 44.1kHz sampling frequency and 16-bit
quantization of the digital, so the quality of the sound file and CDs is similar! It is the closest to a lossless
music format, so the file size is relatively large.
What is FLAC?
FLAC, or Lossless Audio Compression Coding, is a famous free audio compression coding that features lossless
compression. Unlike other lossy audio codecs like MP3 and AAC, it does not destroy any of the original audio
information.
What is APE?
APE is one of the popular lossless formats for digital music. Unlike lossy formats such as MP3, which
irreversibly deletes (hearing-insensitive) data in order to reduce the size of the source file, APE is a more
refined recording format that reduces the size of the file, restoring the data to the same size as the source file,
thus ensuring the integrity of the file.
What is DSD?
DSD music format is a kind of lossless music format, because its encoding is different from normal encoding, it
is a kind of digital encoding, which makes it a niche and special music format.
