the
Description
This test ensures the Optical Transmitter(s) output power level
and waveform meet the required eye mask, extinction ratio and
average power specifications. The Transmitter output is
connected to an Optical Oscilloscope and the eye compared
with the predefined masks stored in the oscilloscope memory.
The average signal power levels and Extinction Ratio are also
measured using the oscilloscope.
Optical Output Power

-5 to +0 dBm *
-2 to +3 dBm *
-1 to +1 dBm * (version 1)
-5 to -1 dBm * (version 2)
* Typical transmit power level is in the middle of the stated range.
Check the stated Output Power on the instrument panel to determine if the
instrument has version 1 or version 2 optics fitted
Extinction ratio
>8.2 dB

These tests are identical for SONET or SDH modes and can be tested in
either mode and should not be repeated for both.
