Performance Tests

ENB ON
Set the Optical Power Meter to:
WAVELENGTH 1310 nm (or 1550 nm depending on
wavelength used)
Connect the Optical Attenuator between the Power Meter and
the OmniBER OTN’s
Optical Out
port (ensure that all
connections are tight and that the cable has no twists).

Press
<Menu>
, choose
Tx/Rx > Transmitter Settings
then
press
<Select>
. Select the
Physical
tab. Set the
Signal Mode
to
SONET
and
Signal Rate
to
OC1
,
Wavelength 1310 nm
(or
if this is not fitted, select
1550 nm
). Ensure the
Laser
is set to
ON.
Check the laser LED is illuminated at the selected
Output Port on the OmniBER OTN’s connector panel.

Adjust the Optical Attenuator to obtain a reading of –33 dBm
on the Power Meter (that is, the Receiver minimum
sensitivity for 52/155 Mb/s rates). Take note of the
Attenuator setting.

Set the Optical Attenuator to Disable mode.
Note, do not switch OFF the OmniBER OTN laser.
