Before You Begin
Review the Principles of Connector Care
Proper connector care and connection techniques are critical for accurate and repeatable measurements.
Refer to Table 3-1
for tips on connector care.
Prior to making connections to your analyzer, carefully review the information about inspecting,
cleaning, and gaging connectors. Refer to the calibration kit documentation for detailed connector care
information.

Handling and Storage

Visual Inspection

• Inspect all connectors carefully

• Look for metal particles, scratches, and
dents
Connector Cleaning

• Try compressed air first

• Use any abrasives
• Use isopropyl alcohol

1. Cleaning connectors with alcohol shall only be done with the instrument’s power cord removed, and in
a well-ventilated area. Allow all residual alcohol moisture to evaporate, and the fumes to dissipate prior
to energizing the instrument.
• Get liquid into plastic support beads
• Clean connector threads
Gaging Connectors
Do
• Clean and zero the gage before use
Do Not
• Use an out-of-specification connector
• Use the correct gage type
• Use correct end of calibration block
• Gage all connectors before first use
Making Connections
Do
• Align connectors carefully
Do Not
• Apply bending force to connection
• Make preliminary connection contact
lightly
• Over tighten preliminary connection
• Turn only the connector nut
• Twist or screw any connection
• Use a torque wrench for final connection
• Tighten past torque wrench “break”
point
