Calibration

Agilent 93000 SOC Series User Training Part 1, October 2004

5-2 Calibration

The SOC Series system boards and modules are factory-calibrated.

Calibration guarantees long-term stability and accuracy.

The clock board, for example, generates four reference voltages and

includes four reference resistors that enable the PMUs to measure volt-

ages and currents. These references are measured after manufacturing

and correction values are stored in the clock board’s EEPROM.

Traceable Calibration

Traceable calibration (NIST calibration) is the process of measuring

the system references, using calibrated and traceable external

measuring equipment, and comparing them with the specifications.

If the system calibration shall be traceable, the traceable calibration

has to be performed every 6 months and after any exchange of cali-

brated modules or boards. Once a traceable calibration has been

successfully completed, the system is guaranteed to meet NIST

(National Institute of Standards and Traceability) and international

traceability standards. A calibration certificate can then be filled in.

Auto Calibration

Auto Calibration measures the differences between the present status

and the desired status of all signal levels and timings and stores the

resulting offsets. This comparison is based on internal measurement

units and references.

Auto Caibration procedures

Auto Calibration comprises four procedures:

DC calibration

, to adjust the level accuracy

•

AC calibration

, to adjust the timing accuracy

• TDR calibration

•

DPS calibration

, to adjust the device power supplies

N O T E

Auto Calibration must be performed at least every three months, in

order to compensate for long term drift effects and to meet the system

specifications.

When to Auto Calibrate

Auto Calibration must also be performed, if one of the following

components has been replaced:

• any channel board
