Hardware Installation

General Information

Introduction

This document provides installation instructions for the Agilent
Technologies 5973N and 5973 inert Mass Selective Detector
(MSD). Installation must be performed by an Agilent
Technologies service representative.

The Agilent Technologies 5973N Mass Selective Detector (MSD)
is a diffusion pump MSD while the 5973 inert Mass Selective
Detectors (MSDs) are turbo pump MSDs. This document will
refer to the 5973N MSD or 5973 inert MSD as 5973 Series MSD
unless otherwise noted.

The 5973 Series MSD system consists of:

5973N or 5973 inert MSD

Optional 59864B vacuum gauge controller (required for CI
operation)

Gas Chromatograph
6890 Series GC, with options for MSD use
7683 Automatic Liquid Sampler (optional)

PC and MSD ChemStation software
Refer to your MSD ChemStation documentation for
additional information

Table 1

lists possible configurations for the 5973 Series MSD.

Figure 1

identifies many of the common parts.
