Table 2.3 Recommended Dispense Settings
Setting
Description
Recommended
Value
Range
Target Volume
Target amount of analyte to be dispensed onto each pad.
iPLEX: 12 nL
MassCLEAVE: 12 nL
UltraSEEK: 25 nL
Volume Check
Lower/Upper Limit
The range of dispensed analyte that is acceptable
MassCLEAVE and
iPLEX: 8-20
UltraSEEK: 10-35
Aspirate Time
The amount of time the pins remain in the microtiter plate to load
analyte. Aspirate times less than 5 seconds can lead to higher
standard deviation. Increasing the aspirate time to more than 8
seconds does not improve the standard deviation.
8 sec
3-8 sec
Aspirate Offset
The distance the pins extend into the microtiter plate wells. The
distance in mm is measured from the top of the plate down.
Decreasing the Aspirate Offset raises the pins; increasing the
Aspirate Offset makes the pins extend deeper into the wells.
5 mm
4-10 mm
Aspirate Speed
The speed at which the pins raise out of the microtiter plate wells.
Increasing or decreasing the Aspirate Speed causes inconsistent
volumes of liquid to remain in the pin slot. Changing this setting is
not recommended.
60 mm/sec
40-60
mm/sec
Dispense Time
The amount of time the pins remain on the SpectroCHIP Array
surface. Increasing the Dispense Time increases the spot size and
may decrease the standard deviation between pins. Dispense times
longer than 1 second are not recommended.
0 sec
0-2 sec
Dispense Offset
The "over travel" distance the pin head moves to ensure that all pins
contact the SpectroCHIP Array sufficiently. Changing this setting is
not recommended.
1 mm
1-2 mm
Dispense Speed
Adjusts lift off the SpectroCHIP Array. The primary setting to
increase or decrease the average volume of analyte dispensed on
a SpectroCHIP Array.

Calibrant
Dispense/Aspirate
Controls how many dispense operations are performed for each
load (or aspiration) of calibrant. Pins are lowered into the calibrant
reservoir to load calibrant. The calibrant is dispensed to
SpectroCHIP Arrays by touching the pins to the SpectroCHIP Array
surface at the calibrant pads. It is possible to dispense several times
(multiple pin touches to a pad) before reloading the pins with
calibrant; however, it is recommended you leave this setting at "1"
1
Calibrant Dispense
Speed
The speed at which calibrant is transferred to the calibrant pads on
a SpectroCHIP Array. The Calibrant Dispense Speed does not affect
the dispense speed for the main SpectroCHIP Array pads. Changing
this setting is not recommended.

UltraSEEK: 100
MassCLEAVE: 140
140
mm/sec
Rinse Time
The amount of time that the pins remain in the rinse station.
Changing this setting is not recommended.
3.5 sec
3.5-5.0
sec
Wash Time
The amount of time that the pins remain in the ultrasonic cleaner
(wash station). Changes to this setting are not recommended.
5 sec
5-10 sec
Dry Time
The amount of time that the pins are dried. Changing this setting is
not recommended. If the dry time is longer than 0.2 sec, the dry
station may not recover in time before the next dry event.
