OVERVIEW
The module ADSL71-2plus must be combined with the Aethra
®
xDSL multi-
interface tester D2071.
It covers completely the ADSL technology, both ADSL over POTS and
ADSL over ISDN as well as new ADSL 2/2+.
Aethra supplies this card with all the variations to ADSL like G.DMT, G.Lite,
Full Rate, Multimode, etc. in order to be ready to face evey kind of link
during an installation or troubleshooting of a line.
Through the connection test, the ADSL link can be analyzed in depth,
thanks to parameters characterizing the line like Fast/Interleaved bit rate,
Noise Margin, Attenuation and many others.
The SMART STATUS
TM
feature allows the user, through the pression of a
single button, to display the DMT bit per tone in graphical and table format;
this is useful to investigate the portions of frequency spectrum negatively
influenced by crosstalk or any other noise.
The user can perform both high impedance and “during simulation” moni-
toring; then, all data captured can be analyzed either directly at customer
premise (through the powerful onboard decoding) or by using PC108 for
Windows
TM
software.
For what concerns the ATM stack, the implementation of the OAM cells is
provided while AAL-5 is the ATM Adaptation Layer chosen for the packets
generation test. On this subject, pages dealing with errors and statistics are
available in order to allow a detailed analysis of the ATM layer.
The IP layer can be managed through the IP Ping test and the IP Generate
Traffic. While the former checks the connection to the Internet Provider, the
reachability of a remote host, the Trace Route and the response times, the
latter allows the simulation of a data transfer between two hosts. Further
tests are available to measure the throughput of the connection in
progress using high level HTTP and FTP protocols.
There are two operating modes: the ATU-R one simulates the user’s side;
the Through mode (Bridge) one carries out a simulation of the user’s
modem: this is achieved by placing the module and the main unit D2071
between the host and the CO side.
