It is assumed that you are familiar with power supplies, and are aware of the
electrical safety precautions that should be taken to avoid personal injury and
damage to the equipment.
Installing a PSU in the 9HU Shelf or 7HU Shelf
See the Safety Guidelines section above and the Table 27 on p. 228 before you
install any AC or DC power supply unit (PSU). The term PSU used in the follow-
ing installation procedure relates to all AC and DC power supply units which can
be installed in a 9HU Shelf (SH9HU) and 7HU Shelf (SH7HU or SH7HU-R).
When you install PSUs in a SH9HU, SH7HU or SH7HU-R shelf, you mount
them in the same way. Therefore, the installation procedure below is applicable
to all PSUs listed in
Table 27 on p. 228 , except for the PSU/1HU-R-AC(-200).
Equipment Required
Before starting the procedure, ensure the following is available.
• Torx screwdriver TX10 to assist in tightening the knurled screws
• ESD-preventive wrist strap or other personal grounding device
• Suitable grounded surface or an antistatic mat for placing the power supply
unit
• Appropriate PSU packaged in the cardboard box
Installation Procedure
Several tasks must be completed. Some tasks are detailed in sub-tasks. Follow
these steps to install a PSU in a SH9HU or SH7HU(-R) shelf.
Procedure
Step 1 Read the installation plan to get information about:
•
the PSU type that is to be installed
• the shelf which is to be equipped with this PSU
Step 2 Attach a wrist strap to your bare wrist and fasten the grounding wire
onto the ESD grounding point on the shelf (if available) or to a bare
metal surface onto the rack.
Step 3 Find the physical location of the corresponding shelf within the rack or
cabinet.
Step 4 Ensure that the shelf has been connected to the earth point of the
rack or cabinet.
Step 5 Take the PSU out of the cardboard box. Remove it from the
static-protective package and immediately place it onto a grounded
surface or an antistatic mat.

Store the original package of the PSU in a safe place for future use.
