1. GENERAL
This document provides installation and maintenance
procedures for the ADTRAN HR4 List 1 HDSL
remote shelf.
Figure 1
is a photograph of the unit.
Revision History
This is the second release of this document. It has
been revised to include mounting clearances, HTU-C
information, and optional equipment.
Features

Description
The ADTRAN HR4 shelf is designed for use in
applications where it is beneficial to replace a series of
T1 repeaters with HDSL transceiver technology. The
shelf is designed to accept up to four ADTRAN
HTU-R units. HTU-R plug-ins can be loaded into
slots 1 through 4. Network connections are made
using a 50-pin amphenol connector. Customer
connections are made through RJ-48 connectors.
The ADTRAN HR4 measures 7.60 inches wide (6.25
inches minus the mounting ears), 8.25 inches front-to-
back, and 11.6 inches high. The unit weighs 3
pounds, 14 ounces. No clearance is required on the
top or the sides. Two inches must be allowed below
the unit for cabling.
Each shelf is wired and tested and contains provisions
for network connections, customer connection, and
power connections (optional for HDSL applications).
