Specifying which colors to create 
separations for

The Separation Setup dialog box labels 
each separation with the color name 
that Illustrator assigned it. If a dot 
appears next to the color name under 
the printer icon, Illustrator will create 
a separation for the color. A dot under 
the crossed-out printer icon means that 
Illustrator won’t create a separation.

Dots indicate whether colors will be separated
