for colors you want to appear
transparent
By default, both fills and strokes in the
Adobe Illustrator program appear
opaque because the top color
knocks
out
, or cuts out, the area underneath.
You can prevent knockout by using the
Overprint option in the Paint Style
palette
to make overlapping printing
inks appear transparent
.
Note:
The degree of transparency
depends on the ink, paper, and printing
method used. Consult your print shop to
determine how these variables will
affect your final artwork.
You cannot preview the effects of
overprinting. On-screen, you can
approximate the colors on overprinted
objects with the
Hard filter
. However,
carefully check overprinted colors
on separated artwork using integral or
overlay proofs.
