Opening files created by other
applications
You can use the Open command to open
a document created by another applica-
tion, and create a new Adobe Illustrator
document. Vector artwork in the docu-
ment you open is converted to Illustra-
tor paths, which can be modified using
any Illustrator tool; bitmap images can
be modified using transformation tools,
such as scale and rotate, and using
image filters, such as the Gallery
Effects™ (GE) filters in the Illustrator
Filter menu.

To open a file created by another
application:

Choose File > Open.

Locate and select the file you want to
open. If you don’t see the name of the
file you want, the file is stored in a for-
mat that Illustrator cannot read. See the
Read Me file installed with Adobe Illus-
trator for a complete list of all the file
formats you can open.
