Importing text files
You can import text files into the Adobe
Illustrator program from other applica-
tions. Once you have created an inser-
tion point with any of the type tools, use
the
Place command
to import type.
Illustrator uses the Claris® XTND docu-
ment format translator to import text
from word processor and page layout
applications. You can import text from
any document type for which an XTND
translator has been installed.
Note:
You can also paste in text that has
been cut from another application and
is on the Clipboard. However, the styles
and fonts will not be retained.
To import text:

Use one of the type tools to define the
point or area in which the imported text
will appear. If you don’t, Illustrator uses
the page boundary as the boundary for
the imported text.

Choose File > Place.
