To create a gradient:
1
Choose Object
>
Gradient, choose
Window
>
Show Gradient, or double-
click a gradient name in the Paint Style
palette to display the Gradient palette.
2
Choose one of two options:
•
To create a new gradient, click New.
The name New Gradient, followed by a
number, appears in the list. By default,
a new gradient is a linear blend from
white to black, and the midpoint of the
blend—the point at which each color is
50%—is halfway between the two colors.
•
To base your new gradient on an
existing fill, select the existing gradient
from the palette list, and click Duplicate.
3
To change the name of the gradient,
type the name in the text box beneath
the list, and press Return.
Name the gradient distinctly to avoid
overwriting another gradient with the
same name in an open file.
4
To set the gradient’s starting color,
click the left triangle below the gradient
bar.
