Pasting objects in their current layer
Pasted objects (even if copied from dif-
ferent layers) are placed directly in front
of or in back of all selected objects on
the current layer if the Paste Remembers
Layers option is turned off in the Gen-
eral Preferences dialog box. However,
the relative painting order among the
individual pasted objects remains the
same.
The Paste Remembers Layers option
makes objects you paste retain their
layering order. (See
Moving objects
between layers
for more information.)
To paste objects into their current
layer:

Choose File
>
Preferences
>
General.

Select the Paste Remembers Layers
option, and click OK.
