iSCSI Configuration for Red Hat or SUSE Linux
This section provides information on supported iSCSI HBAs and initiators for Red
Hat and SuSE Linux operating systems.
Configuration Notes
The QLogic QLA4050/4052 initiator supports Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, QU4,
and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 or 10. This initiator provides CHAP
authentication and can connect to multiple targets simultaneously. The SANSurfer
utility is included with the HBA to initiate, monitor, and change iSCSI targets using
its text-based user interface.
Installation and configuration information for the QLogic QLA4050/4052 HBA is
included with the adapter and is also available for download from the QLogic Web
site. For information on the installation and configuration of the UNH and in-box
initiators, proceed to the next sections.
Installing and Configuring the In-box iSCSI Initiator
RedHat Enterprise Linux 5 has an in-box software iSCSI initiator, located on the
software CD.
Setting up an In-box iSCSI Initiator
1
Insert the CD with the in-box iscsi initiator rpm
2
Use RPM Manager or the
rpm
command to install the iscsi rpm if it was not
installed during the Linux installation.
3
The initialization script will be installed as
/etc/rc.d/init.d/iscsi
.
4
An iSCSI name (similar to
iqn.1987-05.com.cisco:01.b3544e7c24dd
) will be
generated and written to
/etc/initiatorname.iscsi
.
5
Edit your
/etc/iscsi.conf
file to add the iSCSI target.
linux:~ #:vi /etc/iscsi.conf
6
If you aren't sure how to configure your initiator, navigate to the
DiscoveryAddress keyword in the config file and use it to define an address to
discover.
Note
If the DiscoveryAddress line is commented out (has a # before it), remove
the #, and enter the IP address of your iSCSI target.
a
If you are not configuring CHAP authentication, use this command:
DiscoveryAddress=10.10.1.100
