Overview

Adaptec’s Cogent ANA

-6901 and

ANA-6901 Combo 32-bit, bus master-
ing adapters for PCI servers and
workstations provide fast and trouble-
free connections to Ethernet networks.
With processor-independence, very
large scale integration (VLSI) design,
CPU independence, and 132 MByte/sec
bus speed, the ANA-6901 and ANA-
6901 Combo bring Adaptec’s low-
cost PCI performance to your
Ethernet network.

Key Features and Benefits

Performance through
advanced design
The ANA-6901 and ANA-6901
Combo adapters provide your
graphics, multimedia, and Windows

®

applications with the high throughput
and low CPU utilization needed to
power large amounts of data across
the campus, or around the world.

With two 256 byte independent
transmit and receive FIFOs (First In,
First Out) on-board, and powerful
DMA (Direct Memory Access) capa-
bility, the ANA-6901 and ANA-6901
Combo adapters continue to deliver
high performance during the busiest
network activity periods.

Full Duplex Mode
For even greater throughput, the
ANA-6901 and ANA-6901 Combo
adapters provide Full Duplex Ethernet
(FDE) capability through easily config-
urable software drivers. This feature
effectively doubles the cumulative
system throughput rate in switched
Ethernet networks. These adapters
have completely independent transmit
and receive circuitry for true 20 Mbps
operation. Full Duplex Ethernet
servers using Full Duplex adapters
handle receive and transmit requests
simultaneously. As a result, worksta-
tions take advantage of faster service.

Flexible Configuration
In addition, these adapters are self-
configuring. For maximum conven-
ience, base configurations are
automatically set in the adapters’
BIOS. The adapters also support
manual configuration with any sys-
tem that offers parameters through
the PCI BIOS.

System flexibility is further maxi-
mized by allowing PCI configuration
registers to be mapped to either I/O
space or memory. By providing flexi-
bility in how the registers are accessed,
the ANA-6901 and ANA-6901 Combo
adapters make it easy to avoid con-
flicts with existing resources. These
adapters also support DWORD,
WORD, and BYTE access to
configuration space.
