Signal designations
One must differentiate between the following types of lines and their signals:
Data lines:
• TxD
Transmitted data
• RxD
Received data
Control and signal lines:
• DCD (Data Carrier Detect):
Received signal level. The receiver signals that the information it has
received lies within the defined level. The DCD signal is not used by the
control. The control delivers no signal from this pin.
• DTR (Data Terminal Ready):
Control is ready / not ready for operation (e.g. the receiving buffer is full,
the signal DTR indicates “LOW”).
• DSR (Data Set Ready):
Peripheral ready / not ready for service.
• RTS (Request to Send):
Switch transmission unit on. The control wants to transmit data.
• CTS (Clear to Send):
Readiness for transmission. The peripheral wishes to transmit data.
Ground conductors (lines for power supply):
• Chassis GND:
Housing connection
• Signal GND:
0-V lines for all signals
Pin layout
Keep in mind that there might be a difference between the pin layout of the
control and the adapter block.
