Backup & Recovery
10 Deduplication option allows seamless
integration of data deduplication in the backup process. Available as an
option with any of the Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 advanced products,
it is integrated for ease of use and will reduce storage costs and network
bandwidth utilisation. Priced for SMB, Acronis has brought this cost saving
technology to organisations that, until now, could not afford the significant
implementation investment required.
The resulting benefits to all size organisations are:
Reduction of data up to 90% with deduplication and compression, saving
•
storage space
Elimination of data deduplication-specific hardware saving capital expense
•
Reduction of network traffic resulting in higher communications efficiencies

10 family of products simplify and automate
backup and disaster recovery of Microsoft and Linux workstations and servers
in physical and virtual environments. Based on patented disk imaging and
bare metal restore technologies, these products are the next generation of

Significant storage and network savings through data deduplication
Eliminating duplicate copies of data from multiple computers during the
backup process results in substantial storage and network cost savings. The
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Deduplication option provides affordable file
and block-level software deduplication functionality for both workstations
and servers, so organisations of all sizes can make better use of their storage
infrastructure and save costs.
Data deduplication managed from a central location
Unlike compression, which reduces the size of a single backup image or file,
data deduplication actually eliminates redundancy data across all workstations
and servers scheduled to be backed. For example, when full weekly backups are
performed with a data retention period of 12 months, the “traditional” backups
will contain a significant amount of duplicated data. However, when including
data deduplication in the backup process, only the unique data are stored on an
Acronis Storage Node. Depending on type of data, the recurrence of data change,
and the data retention policy, it is possible to achieve, using data deduplication,
compression ratios of 1:20 or higher. The diagram illustrates how deduplication
works when used as part of an organisations backup and restore process. With the
Acronis Backup & Recovery Deduplication option, and based on policy set by the
organisation, deduplication can take place at the source (machine being backed up)
or the target (receiving Acronis Storage Node).
