Derating
The load capacity (current and power) decreases if the installation site altitude exceeds
1000 meters (3281 ft), or if the ambient temperature exceeds 50 °C (+122 °F).
Ambient temperature derating
With ambient temperatures below +50 °C (+122 °F), no derating is needed. In the temperature
range +50 °C (+122 °F) … +60 °C (+140 °F), the rated output current is decreased by 2.5%
for every additional 1 °C (1.8 °F) compared to +45 °C (+113 °F). The output current is
calculated by multiplying the current given in the rating table by the derating factor.
Example If the ambient temperature is 55 °C (+131 °F), the derating factor is
100% - 2.5 %/°C · 10 °C = 75% or 0.75. The output current is then 0.75 ·

Altitude derating
At altitudes from 1000…2000 m (3281…6562 ft) above sea level, the derating is 0.5% for
every 100 m (328 ft). Derating is allowed only on maximum continuous current for grid and
generator. If the installation site is located higher than 2000 m (6562 ft) above sea level,
contact your local ABB representative.
Alternatively the derating can be handled with cooling liquid temperature derating. 1 °C for
every 100 m. This means that in eg, 2000 m installation, the maximum liquid temperature
is 40 °C (instead of 50 °C) instead of 5% current derating.
